The challenge ahead
A massive flash flood surged through the Bhote Koshi river system on 26 August, devastating communities in Rasuwa district and areas downstream. Hundreds of people have been killed, and thousands remain unaccounted for.
Homes, roads, bridges, power systems, and hydropower facilities have been damaged or destroyed. Severe weather and difficult terrain are complicating rescue efforts. Thousands of livestock have also been swept away.
